Nissan’s biggest SUV, the Patrol will soon be hitting the roads of India. This large seven-seater SUV will be brought in India as CBU units. The Patrol will mainly compete against the Toyota Land Cruiser. Nissan is aiming to take its brand-image to a new level with the launch of the Patrol in India.
The Patrol is a 4x4 SUV and features a ladder-on-frame construction which makes it a rugged SUV capable of handling a bit of off-roading. The international version of the Patrol features three transmission options which include a manual, but in India the Patrol is likely to be equipped only with seven-speed automatic gearbox, which is featured in the Patrol’s top model internationally. The Patrol is expected to be equipped with a big 5.6 litre V8 petrol motor that’s good for around 400bhp and 57kgm torque.
The Patrol is fitted with certain features to make it an able off-roader which includes a full-time 4WD system, Hill Start Assist, Hill Decent Control and 18-inch big alloy wheels.
The interiors of the Patrol are expected to be much better appointed and more attractive than the Land Cruiser. The Patrol will be expensive with a price tag of approximately Rs.1-crore and will thus also compete with Audi Q7 and Mercedes GL-Class.
What remains to be seen, is how the Indians will take to a Rs.1 crore Nissan with other big-brand options available in this range.
