I am Samit Wadhawan, admin of DARK which is Devil Angels Riders Klub. I reside in Thane which falls in the state of Maharashtra. In 2012, I decided to get myself a super-bike. I had in my mind two options the Suzuki Intruder and Suzuki Hayabusa. I went with the latter. The incredible power of Hayabusa and the responsive throttle was the primary reason that I went for this beast. I had always been using twin-engined bikes and now wanted to try the inline 4 cyl bike. I am extremely happy with the Busa. It is very comfortable for touring in the supersport class.
Engine
The streamlined Suzuki Hayabusa features a high efficiency curved radiator that features dual electric fans controlled by the ECM for increased cooling capacity. The oil cooler has 10 row cores for increased heat dissipation. The Hayabusa's engine is supplied through Suzuki's SDTV (Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve) fuel injection system with dual 12-hole, fine-spray injectors per cylinder and ram air intake with sizeable volume airbox. Also equipped on the Hayabusa is a 1340cc in-line 4-cylinder fuel injected, DOHC liquid-cooled engine with 16-valves and Twin Swirl Combustion Chambers (TSCC) delivers outstanding power.
It is an excellent engine made by Suzuki, highly refined and smooth. Till date I have never faced a single issue on the engine parts. Being a tourer it is a little heavy on the curves. Very satisfied hayabusa's torque is 132.6Nm @7600rpm
The Hayabusa is not heavy on maintenance. It only needs regular chain lubes on 500km interval and chain clean every 1000 km in India. I recommend Motul chain clean and lubes. There is a need to clean Air filters every 3000km and change oil and oil filter after every 3000km. Bike consumes around 3.8L of enigne oil during every oil change. I recommend Motul 300v factory line 10w 40/50 or 5w 30 if you ride long distance. It has double Esther technology.
Every period maintenance cost me around Rs. 10k plus 4k for oil and1k for oil filter.
Lubes / cleaning/ detailing and labour costs another 5k
Have serviced it 3 times and it costs around 10k per service
Braking
2013 Hayabusa has Brembo ABS brakes which are better from 2012. But 2012 model also has good brakes of Tokico. The only wear and tear you will notice is a tyre wear around 7500km - 8500km depending on your riding style and also the rear disc pad goes around for 6000kms and the front will last at least 14000km in hard breaking conditions
Maintenance and service cost incurred for brakes :
Brake pad front: Rs. 12000 for a set
Brake pad rear : Rs. 4000
Brake pad front: Rs. 12000 for a set
Brake pad rear : Rs. 4000
Suspension/Ride Comfort
The Ride comfort is excellent like a sofa on long rides. The suspension is very good and rigid which is very important at high speeds. If the suspension is too soft at highspeeds these bikes will throw you off. But seats are very soft and big, enabling you to change positions for cornering.
It is a sports tourer. So leaning on the tank becomes compulsory. If your upper body is heavy then to ride this beast all you need is a pure passion. You cannot ride it otherwise. BUSA, R1, GSXR, Fireblade and ZX14 all super sports bikes will make you lean for aerodynamics. You should have real strong back and shoulders to ride this.
Styling
Fabulous is the word. Most beautiful looking sport tourer. Top notch build quality, nothing to criticize. Fantastic looks. Loads of R&D done on the engine and design of the hayabusa gets changed every year. For example the 2008 and 2014 models looks similar but there is a change in the riding position every year. The 2008 model is much more comfortable whereas the 2012 is sportier. So it is rider’s choice what they want. Also you can change the position by adding after market bar raisers.
Stability & handling at high speeds
Very nice and agile to handle. If you are a new rider you may take atleast 6 months to learn to handle a busa. She is very responsive so would suggest to be gentle with her initially. On straights no one can be like a busa but she is equally challenging on the curves. So better plan in advance before you approach a curve, as all such bikes do not forgive you for small mistakes.
No noise, superb handling but you need to be a pro to handle this at high speeds. You can easily get carried away. So safety first, ride responsibly. The 2007 and old busas had heating issues because of single fan in the radiator. The 2008 and up models have dual high speed fan which do not allow overheating. Have tried being in traffic with engine on 45 min. She does not spit coolant.
Top speed achieved by me is 285kmph till date
The tyres originally come with Bridgestone Battlax which are ok and not that great. I suggest Michelin Pilot Road 2 which costs Rs 20k for a pair and they do justice to this bike and the Indian road conditions.
Fuel Economy – City & Highway
City : 19.3KMPL
Highway upto 160kmph 23.4kmpl
Above 160kmph 16.6kmpl
Above 160kmph 16.6kmpl
The faster you go on higher gears and maintain lower rpm under 7500rpm you will get the best mileage
One best experience with my Busa
I did Mumbai-Ratnagiri 350 km in 4.5 hrs solo ride non-stop, fully geared. It was a very nice experience. Superb cornering on the ghats :)
Verdict
The Busa is not that expensive to maintain and I had a good service experience till now. I am fully satisfied with my decision to purchase a Hayabusa. I highly recommend going for a Busa but if you don't believe in speed, going for this is pointless and complete waste of money.
